This week, I continue read my favorite book the Americanah. In Chapter 2, the author writes about Obinze's daily life who is Ifemelu's old boyfriend. Obinze is a rich man who owns a Rang Rover and expensive properties in Nigeria, and Ifemelu is an success writer especially about race in America. when Ifemelu return to her homeland Nigerian, she met Obinze and they shared together the passions and challenges of their country. One of the issues was about the honesty of the people in Nigeria, and the author stated that " You are hungry and honest, that is very rare in this country" and she added, " everybody is hungry in this country, even the rich men are hungry, but nobody is honest."

Dear Ibrahim
ReplyDeleteCan you believe that there is a relationship between hunger and honesty. I don't think so.
Oday
Hey Ibrahim,
ReplyDeleteI was about to read this book. However, my point of view in the honest issue. it is really hard to find it around you regardless of poverty, also, It might be right that hunger drives you to lie or steal but it is not necessary.
